Due to the budget cuts, this fall 2011 will be my final belly dance class at TMCC.  This summer is my 8th year teaching there and it’s been a fantastic journey.  I hope to see you there!

Moostaches has proved to be one of my favorite Asha shows!  It’s hard to think to the future when the past was so much fun but music has been chosen and now it’s time to roll up the sleeves and get to work.

Yes, Intermediate and Advanced are at the same time.  What’s the difference, you ask?  We occasionally have performance opportunities out in the community.  If you are enrolled in the Advanced class, I expect you to learn the routine and make/purchase an appropriate costume.  If you are enrolled in the Intermediate class, I would hope you would like to perform but it’s not expected of you.

Rules for performing:

You must not miss any of the 3 classes/rehearsals prior to a performance. 

You must not miss more than 3 classes per semester, and none during the 3 classes prior to a performance.

 You must arrange your own transportation to and from a performing event well in advance of said event.

If you do not arrive at a performing event by the call time I have predetermined, you may not perform at that event (though you may stay and watch the event if the organizers permit it).

If a last minute emergency arises to where you cannot perform at an event, you must call me to let me know as soon as possible/in advance of the event.

You must not wear any costume element/combination to perform in, that you have not worn in dress rehearsal.  There will be a final dress rehearsal scheduled.

You understand that I may pull you from a performance should I deem it necessary.

Spring class is swiftly approaching.  If you’re interested in signing up, visit the TMCC website.  Beginning Belly Dance starts at 5:30 and Intermediate/Advanced starts at 6:45.  You will need zills for either session. 

If you’ve taken Beginning Belly Dance at least twice and you’re interested in Intermediate, drop me a line at minya@ashaworlddancers.com.  What we’re looking for in Intermediate is that you understand the vocabulary of Basic belly dance moves.  We want to build on those basics by adding layers and different movement which can’t happen if you don’t know what those basics are. 

Advanced class is for those students who want to learn the class routine for performances.  This includes creating the costume decided on by the Advanced students.  You can be in the Intermediate class and still learn the routine.  If you’re signed up for Advanced, you will be expected to know the routine well enough to perform and have the appropriate costume.  If you have questions as to whether you’re ready for this level, drop me  a line.

Congratulations to Hipswitch on their 2nd place win in the Ruby Category at the first annual Jewel of the Sierra belly dance competition at South Lake Tahoe.  They performed to “Move” with all kinds of fun changes.  I could not have been prouder!
